Workplace bullies exposed in chilling new book

- - Literature Correspondent.

WHEN the phrase “human resources” is mentioned, it often conjures up images of hiring, firing, pay days and policies. A new book has now blown the lid off this largely silent profession, exposing the shady goings-on that lurk behind the façade of brilliance of some of the seemingly well run corporates.

Expectation, suspense, shock, anger, relief and happiness are all words one can testify to go through when treading Regina Tendayi’s book “In Pursuit of Righteousness”. Not many books can take you through an emotional roller-coaster and in this case the cliché is more than true. This book takes you through key human resources management lessons as well life advice.

This book is a human resource management book first of all, no mistake about that. One gets educated on human resources skills and how to conduct themselves in a big corporate. The twist in this story, which has been cleverly woven as a tale where we follow Pam, the main character of the book, who not only goes through her dream job which turns into a nightmare but also experiences legal and life lessons to last for life.

The real twist is in discovering that this book is based on a true story. By the time one gets to the middle of the book the human resources management practical lessons are entrenched as the reader is taken through Pam’s experience and you cannot help but to wish her well.

Regina’s more than 15 years in the human resource management practice are proven as she masterfully guides us with different lessons that one needs to learn in the work place especially when confronted with a bully. One cannot stop to wonder as you read the book and take self-introspection about your work experience as well as your experiences beyond the office.

This book is a plus for leadership and a gem for persons who want to speak out but are not sure how to do it. That you do not have to suffer workplace bullying is a clear lesson in this book, and there are ways to deal with it.

The book introduces itself with an iceberg on the cover as one only sees the tip of what goes on in the professional world besides the well-dressed suits that we see in the corporate world. There is more in the workplace as in the book you experience shock on just the different things that happen in the offices.

“In Pursuit of Righteousness” is a must read for any professional, a manual for any practising human resource professional and lesson for any leader in the corporate world. But just when you think this book is for the professional because of the clever unravelling of Pam’s story; one feels they are reading a heroine’s tale, a shocking tale where the heroine has to find a way to survive and triumph. Pam’s story not only becomes a book but becomes your story.

Regina Tendayi got the 2007 Personnel Practitioner of the Year Award. She has worked in various leadership capacities within the human resources field in reputable international companies and is a well-respected human resources professional. In this book she has put together a compelling story filled with twists and turns in the human resource field, which is a must read for any professional and corporate leader.

She believes in respect for the individual, professionalism, acceptance of diversity and the dignity of human beings regardless of background, race, social standing or disability. She was compelled to write this book following an experience of what she describes as the highest level unimaginable of “degrading and inhuman treatment of another being” at an organisation that purported to be operating under strong Christian principles.

Regina is married to Munyaradzi and have been blessed with three children, namely Chido, Isheanesu and Munya Jnr.
