1 killed, 3 injured in crash
A 19-YEAR-OLD woman from Buhera died on Sunday, while three others were seriously injured when the vehicle they were travelling in burst a tyre, veered off the road and overturned.
Manicaland police spokesperson Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa confirmed the accident.
Insp Kakohwa said the injured were admitted at Birchenough Bridge Hospital.
“It is alleged that the driver, Manager Zvingana, aged 46, from Tamanika Village under Chief Chamutsa in Buhera was driving a blue Honda Fit that belongs to Zivanai Ndumo, aged 36, of 2357 Chikanga 2, to Chipinge with three passengers,” he said.
“As he approached the 18-kilometre peg, the front left tyre of the vehicle that he was driving burst. He lost control of the vehicle and it veered off the road, overturned once and landed on its wheels.”
Insp Kakohwa said Esnath Dhliwayo (19) of Kufakwatenzi Village under Chief Tamuka in Buhera died on the spot, while three others were badly injured.
He urged drivers to be cautious on the roads.
“Mostly, tyre bursts are a result of using second-hand tyres or those that do not conform to technical standards, high temperatures, overloading and speeding,” she said.
“Other causes may include incorrect tyre pressure, which changes the shape of the tyre. We strongly advise motorists to use new tyres and quit using old or second-hand ones.”
