Entertainment Republic shows its face

- Robert Mukondiwa

AS EUPHORIA continues unabated at what seems a sprint towards the hosting of the Thomas Mapfumo show, the hosts, Entertainment Republic, know that it was anything but as sprint. It was an arduous marathon. And while heads start to spin in the hard work, energy and tireless dedication demanded of the organisers, they look back at what was in fact years of meticulous planning. The very hallmark of Entertainment Republic. And none know that more than the maverick face and CEO of Entertainment Republic, Tendai ‘Jones’ Johannes.

While there has been a concerted effort by many with more than enough time on their hands to unearth who Entertainment republic hare, they are occupied with real work… planning shows and events.

“We are a tried and tested superior than the rest type of passion driven entity as Entertainment Republic and have always kept our meticulous team of service, which is also behind brining Mukanya for the first time in aeons,” says Tendai.

Young, slick and driven, Tendai carries the Zimbabwean dream, but has fingerprints of perfection that have been spread across the continent.

“We have successfully managed events and engagements in Uganda, Zambia, South Africa and the zenith of last year’s work was the slick hosting of the Tarrus Riley event in Harare which brought a diff erent standard to event hosting and management,” he says.

He is more than right. With logistical modalities that worked liked clockwork, Entertainment Republic moved away from the jalopies rickety-rackety tin- can like caravans used to sell tickets at venues especially the HICC and brought the slick connected interactive container service that left them with nothing by way of competition.

Not that they are competing with anyone.

But Tendai is quick to say they actually are competing against someone-themselves!

“Which is why the Mukanya show shall be us outdoing ourselves. We want it to be safe, cashless, paperless and efficient in the most innovative way possible,” says Tendai.

If he had a second name, it probably would be precision. His maroon leather-padded side and suede-top show, tuxedo pants and Mercedes Benz authentic belt speak of a man who leaves nothing to chance. Nothing to fate. And a crisp white shirt in spite of it having been worn all throughout the day is evidence of a man who leads a perfect team.

They have the best; a logistical team that works on time. A finance manager who works as if her were a secret agent. A media person who is the best in the business. So good in fact that if media were a marathon he would be so ahead he could have time to build a mansion, sleep in it for a night, carry on with the race the next morning and the next best person would still not be anywhere near in sight!

Expertise everyone wants to replace but nobody knows how.

“We want to venture into promoting and managing artistes. We need to get the game upped and have artistes who are as special as the brand we are building,” admits Tendai.

The Mukanya gig will not have tickets paid for nor catering with hard cash but a prepaid system and a technical precision that is the first to be tested and will defi nitely thrive.

“We will spell out the modalities continually. We have already started but want to keep educating people so that they know that we can work efficiently using only innovation and world class growth in events management,” says Tendai.

All the while, a wry looking chap sits on an endless mobile phone call with one Mai Gamu to make sure the social media and everything else is on point. Like a body or heart that pulses and pumps blood none stop, the Entertainment Republic machine never goes to sleep.

Entertainment Republic is certainly creating a kingdom in which they are a supreme ruler in top class events. Aft er all, in one kingdom, there can only be one king!
