Mwenezi RDC crafts economic blueprint

- Walter Mswazie Masvingo Correspondent

MWENEZI Rural District Council is crafting an economic blue print as part of a re-branding exercise to lure the much needed investment into the district.

Council Chief executive Mr Albert Chivanga last week said the district had vast investment opportunities, which could transform it into an economic hub.

He said Mwenezi was strategically located close to the highway linking Zimbabwe and South Africa and also boasts of vast tracts of land for ranching, wildlife conservancy operations and a rich mineral resource base.

“We are crafting a district economic blue print that spells out investment opportunities that are found in Mwenezi. We are open for business,” said Mr Chivanga.

“This is in line with the Government’s call on easy of doing business.”

He said given the fact that Mwenezi was found, crop farming was not thriving that a few if any people would have sufficient food reserves that go beyond a year. He said despite it being in the agro-ecological region 4 and 5, the district was home to quite a number of cattle and produced one of the best breeds in the country.

“In terms of tourism we have wildlife in the Conservancies that include Mujingwe, Bubi Valley Conservancies where the big five animals are found. These include elephant, rhinoceros, buffalo, lion and leopard. We also have gold deposits and other minerals that need exploration.

“We provide good quality beef. Even the now defunct Cold Storage Company used to get most of its meat from Mwenezi and Chiredzi.

“We also have Manyuchi Dam that has water all year round for irrigation purposes and vast tracks of land for infrastructure development. All this is contained in our blue print,” he said.

He said Mwenezi was open for business and appealed to investors to visit the district to tap into an array of business opportunities at their disposal.

Mr Chivanga said the local authority has attended to poor road network, its water crisis through drilling of boreholes, under projects that were earmarked under the first 100 days plan enunciated by President Emmerson Mnangagwa at his inauguration last year.
