VETERAN basketball administrator Tapiwa Zvaraya, who has thrown his name in the hat for today’s Harare Basketball Association secretary-general post elections, believes he has a lot to offer to the sport if given the opportunity.

Zvaraya, who is also the secretary-general for Cameo Basketball Club, has confirmed his willingness to take up the post and is hopeful that he will add value to the association.

The HBA secretary-general post fell vacant after the resignation of Samantha Matavatava a few months ago.

Two nominees have been announced by the HBA, with Kudzai Choga from Assassin Basketball Club also in the race.

The extraordinary congress to elect the new HBA secretary-general will be held today at City Sports Centre.

Zvaraya, who is the current HBA acting secretary-general, said he has been in basketball circles for a long time and has grabbed this opportunity with both hands.

“I have been in the basketball circles for quite a long time now. I have gained some experience after I became a secretary at Cameo Basketball Club. At first I was not eager to take part in the elections as Harare is such a big province compared to where I came from, however, later l realised that I can grab this chance to develop the sport,’’ he said.
