Kadoma Hospital begins renovations

KADOMA General Hospital has begun a major renovation exercise that is expected to gobble over $500 000.

As a result, some services have been temporarily suspended and patients in need of the affected services are being referred to other health institutions.

Two companies have since been contracted for the project, whose scope involves constructing a new laundry block, a driveway from the main gate and the erection of a new fence.

The project is reportedly being financed by the country’s biggest platinum producer, Zimplats. Kadoma General Hospital medical superintendent Dr Frankson Masiye last month issued a notice advising of the renovations.

“You are kindly advised that Kadoma General Hospital is undergoing renovations for the next two months. This includes the main gate, which will be closed. People and vehicles will be using the Westview Cemetery site gate.

“Further information will be passed as we go. We are sorry for the inconvenience that is going to be caused,” reads the notice.

A site visit by The Herald on Monday showed that some departments at the hospital had been temporarily shut down to pave way for the renovations.

These include the out-patients department and operations theatre wings.
