Kadoma dumps Rimuka rank

MANAGEMENT at the Kadoma Municipality has disclosed that it is ready to part with $150 000 to upgrade the Waverly Bus Stop into a rank, while abandoning the one in Rimuka.

This follows several complaints by residents about human and vehicular chaos at the Waverly Bus Stop which has, in some cases, resulted in loss of lives.

Kadoma Central legislator Cde Fani Phiri recently wrote a letter to the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs in Mashonaland West Webster Shamu, saying the Waverly Bus Stop had become a death trap.

Part of the letter reads: “I am appealing to your good offices to intervene in the chaos and possible major traffic disaster waiting to happen at Waverly bus stop in Kadoma along the Harare-Bulawayo highway.”

He said concerns raised had not yielded any positive results.

“The Ministry of Transport regulation on building distance from highway has not been observed,” said Minister Shamu. “Council is approving or ignoring illegal structures sprouting at the place.

“The area is a death trap as several accidents have happened at the place, but a major one might be waiting to happen.”

Acting Kadoma Town Clerk Mr Willard Mangwengwende said upgrading of the bus stop was the way forward.

“We once tried to revert to Rimuka bus terminus, but it was unsustainable and the best way is to create a proper rank at Waverly Bus Stop,” he said.

“The area has to be developed so as to curb the chaos. In the meantime we shall engage the ZRP so that they assist us in enforcing order at Waverly.”

“What we might do is to create a situation whereby we will approach long distance buses that ply remote areas routes so that they use the Rimuka rank while the rest will continue using the Waverly bus stop,” he said.
