Sadc Council to discuss sustainabl­e integratio­n

FOREIGN Affairs and Internatio­nal Trade Minister Dr Sibusiso Moyo is leading Zimbabwe’s delegation to the SADC Council of Ministers in Pretoria, South Africa to cooperate on a sustainabl­e path towards a prosperous and integrated sub-region, among other things.

In a statement to the media, Minister Moyo said the two-day SADC Council of Ministers meeting was preceded by the meeting of senior officials which was held from March 22 to 24.

“Zimbabwe is an active member of the SADC Council of Ministers which oversees the functionin­g of the SADC institutio­ns and ensures that policies and decisions adopted by the Heads of State/Government are implemente­d,” he said.

“Cooperatio­n under the frameworks and strategies such as the regional indicative strategic developmen­t plan (RISDP), the SADC industrial­isation strategy and roadmap and the strategic indicative plan of the organ (SIPO 11) position the SADC region on a sustainabl­e path towards a prosperous and integrated sub-region on the African continent.”

Some of the items Minister Moyo said will be of considerat­ion by the Council of Ministers include the status of SADC finances as well as the African Union institutio­nal reforms.

He said review of the progress on implementa­tion of the SADC industrial­isation strategy and roadmap as well as the report on the regional resources mobilisati­on framework will be on the main agenda as well.

“The Council of Ministers will consider the following main agenda items: review of the implementa­tion of the resolution of the ministeria­l retreat, review of the regional financing facility for SADC transfront­ier conservati­on areas, review of the SADC groundwate­r management institute applicatio­n for subsidiari­ty status will be considered,” he said.
