Zanu-PF holds successful Cell Day
THE Zanu-PF Mashonaland West provincial leadership successfully held its Cell Day on Sunday to register and verify cell members in a bid to strengthen grassroots structures in the province.
Party members gathered in their respective cells across the province, with senior officials leading the process.
The exercise was meant to verify cell members, while establishing party members registered as voters under the Biometric Voter Registration (BVR)programme.
In a recent interview, Zanu-PF provincial chairperson Cde Ziyambi Ziyambi, who attended a cell meeting at Mabvunadzama in Zowa, Zvimba, said cell structures formed the foundation of the party. “The strength of the party lies in the cell structure and we will take this as an opportunity to establish how many of our members are registered to vote. “That will give us an idea of how many people will vote for the party,” he said.
Zanu-PF national secretary for environment and tourism Cde Prisca Mupfumira attended a cell meeting at Chimukupete cell in Chinhoyi’s Ward 8. She said the verification programme also allowed the party to fine-tune its members ahead of the polls. Provincial secretary for administration Cde Simbarashe Ziyambi said the programme went on well, but some areas failed to hold the meetings.
“The day was largely successful, but some areas failed to hold meetings and we think this could be as a result of the short notice.
“We are still compiling information on how people registered for the elections in their respective cell. We hope to get the figures as the week progresses,” he said.
Zimbabwe will go for harmonised elections sometime in July this year, with heightened interest from the international community which has been invited to observe the polls for the first time in many years. President Mnangagwa has promised a free, fair and credible election, which will lay the foundation for Zimbabwe’s economic revival.
