‘Mute’ MPs do not deserve our vote

- Tondorindo Murisa Chinehasha, Harare.

EDITOR — Members of Parliament who are always on ‘mute’ during parliamentary debates do not deserve our votes.

We want active representation in that august House as constituencies face various challenges. Week in week out some honourable members are known to just go in and doze off or sit there bemused and out of sync.

A parliamentary seat is very important to the constituency represented and the party. Team Zanu-PF and the party cadres must nominate loyal and patriotic “voices” for meaningful and productive representation.

No to quiet representation, we need hardworking MPs. Armchair representation is a culture of the past. We need income-generating projects, good roads, functional boreholes and quality schools.

Widows and orphans need assistance and the party must be “visible”. All this is only possible with a hardworking MP.

President Mnangagwa cannot be everywhere every time, so MPs should play their role. If everyone emulates what President Mnangagwa is doing, Zimbabwe can rise again and shine.

No one but ourselves can make Zimbabwe great again. Climate change is real, irrigation schemes must be put in place to ensure food security in the country.

In some resettlement areas the schools are pathetic, with some schoolchildren still learning in tobacco barns.

MPs should alert the President on these issues so that they are addressed. We need development.
