Mash East gears for primary polls

- Victor Maphosa Mash East Correspondent.

MAHONALAND East Province is geared for the smooth holding of its primary elections scheduled for May 5.

In a circular read on his behalf by Mash East provincial chairman Cde Joel Biggie Matiza during the provincial coordinating committee meeting held in Marondera over the weekend, ZANU-PF Secretary for Commissariat Lt-Gen (Retired) Engelbert Rugeje said aspiring candidates in the upcoming primary elections should submit their curriculum vitaes to their respective provinces by April 3.

“The ZANU-PF primary elections are set to be held on May 5 and in that regard the National Elections Directorate has directed that all aspiring candidates in the upcoming primary elections to submit their curriculum vitaes to their respective provinces by April 3 for initial vetting by the provincial executive committees.

“Subsequently, the provincial chairpersons should forward the CVs to the party headquarters in Harare by April 6,” Lt-Gen Rugeje (Rtd) said.

In the circular, Lt-Gen Rugeje (Rtd) outlined the rules and regulations which should govern the conduct of the party’s primary elections and among the guidelines is the call for party supporters and aspiring candidates to exercise discipline and unity during and after elections.

“The conduct of the primary elections must be free, fair and credible. Losing candidates in primary elections must support the winning candidates and be part of the active campaign team of the party candidate.

“Vote buying, violence, intimidation and any other acts of misconduct shall disqualify any prospective candidate for primary elections and candidates or their supporters must desist from maligning, denigrating or making false accusations against other competing candidates,” he said.

Cde Matiza called for unity and discipline among party members for prosperity and a landslide victory in the coming general elections.

The provincial chairman urged aspiring candidates and their supporters to shun violence and intimidating remarks against each other saying those caught on the wrong side will be disciplined.

He warned those who will go against the party constitution that they will face disciplinary action and urged party supporters to abide by the contents of the circular which he said should guide them in the coming primary elections.

“Disciplinary measures will be taken against those who incite violence and use harsh words against other candidates,” he said
