Zibagwe builds footbridges across Sebakwe River
ZIBAGWE Rural District Council has completed the construction of two footbridges in Sebakwe resettlement area, bringing relief to the communities, which have been failing to access local schools and clinics whenever Sebakwe River flooded.
Zibagwe RDC chief executive Mr Farayi Machaya said the footbridges provide a link for pupils and the communities to a nearby clinic and schools across Sebakwe River. These were part of the projects that the local authorities were tasked to do under President Mnangagwa’s 100 days achievements.
He said pupils at Mpande Secondary School and Hurudza Primary School were at times forced to spend weeks without attending lessons whenever the river was flooded.
“There were instances when even teachers on the other side of the river would fail to report for duty for weeks,” he said.
Mr Machaya said the footbridges were built using part of the $500 000 Zinara fund allocation to the local authority.
He said there were cases when pupils were attacked by crocodiles while trying to cross the flooded Sebakwe River and the construction of the footbridges came as a huge relief for the surrounding community.
“These are important projects because the communities had challenges crossing the river. There are cases of people who were attacked by crocodiles while trying to cross the flooded river
“We constructed these bridges in two wards, so we have connected these two wards with the rest of Kwekwe District,” he said.
