More youths express interest in primaries
ZANU-PF youths in the Midlands Province are impressed with the demographic composition of candidates that have expressed an interest in participating in the party’s forthcoming primary elections.
Zanu-PF Deputy Secretary for Youths Affairs Cde Lewis Matutu said youths constituted 40 percent of the candidates who submitted their curricula vitae in the Midlands Province for the primary elections scheduled for May 5.
Cde Matutu said the guidelines set by the party allowed a wider inclusion and participation of youths in the primary elections compared to previous years.
“We are happy that we have more youth candidates in the province and this is a reflection of our party’s commitment to ensure that youths participate in issues of economic development, politics and leadership,” he said.
“In the Midlands Province, more than 40 percent of the candidates are youths; we hope that they will be successful. We would want to have more youths in councils and Parliament.
“It is incumbent upon youths to support each other and ensure peaceful, free and fair elections.”
Cde Matutu urged the youths not to jostle for positions and to be respectful to senior party members while upholding the principles and constitution of the party.
“We know as youths we might get carried away, but we have been presented with an opportunity, so it is time for us to start fighting for positions,” he said. “We should be humble and respectful of senior party members because these are the shoots from where we have grown.
“If we have differences it is time to unite and work together regardless of our interests. Let us desist from violence during the primary elections.”
Cde Matutu is contesting the Zvishavane-Ngezi constituency in the primary elections.
“My vision is to have Zvishavane become the fastest growing town in the country because it is endowed with minerals,” he said. “We also want to ensure that there is adequate, education and health infrastructure in our rural areas.
“I have decided to contest in the primaries this year and if I am chosen I will serve the community to the best of my ability.”
