Pray for peace, love: First Lady

- Audrey Rundofa Herald Reporter

FIRST Lady Auxilia Mnangagwa has encouraged Zimbabweans to continue praying for peace, love and reconciliation.

In a speech read on her behalf by the Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Mrs Prisca Mupfumira, yesterday at commemorations to mark the Zimbabwe National Day of Prayer at Anglican Church Cathedral in Harare, the First Lady said women should continue to take leadership roles.

The commemorations were organised by the World Day of Prayer, which is an international movement of women united in prayer. It dates back to the 19th century.

“I am proud that women of this country, Zimbabwe, are able to follow a vision that was given along by our sisters in other countries all over the world. Continue to give leadership to the work of World Day of Prayer,” she said.

She also said the theme of World Day of Prayer — “Rise, Take Your Mate and Walk” — was instructive and will help the country move forward.

“The theme of this World Day of Prayer helps us appreciate the environment and creatures around us.

“In preparation for Zimbabwe 2020, when all the countries around the world will be praying for our country, I encourage everyone to pray for love, peace and reconciliation.”

Minister Mupfumira also took the

opportunity to commend the First Lady for her work around the country.

“As we commemorate this special day, let us be reminded of the important role that women have in society.

“Our First Lady has already led by

example of being a servant of people.

“She has humbled herself to overlook her status in life and focus on the needs of the disadvantaged in society,” said Min Mupfumira.

“As women who are prayer warriors, let us make it part of our lifestyle to lead prayerful and humble lives.”

World Day of Prayer is a worldwide movement of Christian women of many traditions who come together to observe a common day of prayer each year.
