Keep to size, Matemadanda tells Chamisa
ZANU-PF Secretary for War Veterans, Detainees and Restrictees Cde Victor Matemadanda has scoffed at proposals by MDC-T leader Nelson Chamisa to engage President Mnangagwa in a televised debate saying the State President has more serious bread and butter issues to attend to instead of juvenile antics.
Mr Chamisa made the proposal while addressing his party’s prospective local government candidates for the forthcoming elections last month.
However, Cde Matemadanda said Mr Chamisa should instead engage with the Zanu-PF Youth League if he is keen on a public debate.
“If Chamisa wants a debate, maybe he can engage the Zanu-PF Youth League that is his level. We can’t imagine the President taking time off serious bread and butter issues to respond to a goat that is scratching the walls from outside,” said Cde Matemadanda.
Zanu-PF Deputy Secretary for Youth Affairs Cde Lewis Matutu echoed similar sentiments saying the President had no time to engage Mr Chamisa in his childish antics.
“As the Youth League we actually feel very sorry for Chamisa because he does not understand what it means to lead a nation,” he said.
“The President is not concerned with grandstanding, but uniting the nation and improving the livelihoods of the people. That is why he has not responded to his (Mr Chamisa) meaningless utterances. The President has no time for such issues.”
Mr Chamisa has been on a countrywide tour drumming up support, but has been criticised for utterances at many of his rallies that have been described as childish if not outright lies by observers.
The US embassy had to issue a statement distancing America from Mr Chamisa’s utterances claiming President Donald Trump had promised them $15 billion in aid to turn around the economy if they were to win the forthcoming elections. Just last week in Bulawayo, he claimed during a rally at White City stadium that he had been endorsed by the Joshua Nkomo family and that they had given the family sceptre.
He also made startling proposals to introduce bullet trains upon assuming office and constructing airports to ferry fresh produce to Harare by air for small scale farmers in Murehwa.
