ZNSSA back ZIFA board

- Sports Reporter

THE Zimbabwe National Soccer Supporters Association say they are firmly behind the ZIFA leadership under Harare business tycoon Philip Chiyangwa and will go into the trenches to fight any attempts to destabilise the administration of the game.

ZNSSA board member Eddie Chivero said he travelled from his base in Bulawayo to Harare yesterday to mobilise their members against the attempts being made by a number of former leaders to wrestle power from those who are running the game.

‘‘We have to be very clear here because we cannot allow the kind of lawlessness that we are seeing in our game to continue,’’ said Chivero.

“We have always believed that there was a lot that was being done under the shadows, but now these people have now come out in the open and our message to them is that we are ready for the fight and they will fall.

“These are people who have failed to take control of the game through elections, which they have repeatedly lost, and now believe they can come and do it through the back door by destabilising the association.

“A lot of them are just power-hungry individuals who only surface when they believe there is a chance for them to be anointed as the leaders, these people are not seen at our stadiums, they are not seen anywhere in our game and only come to cause confusion when they think they can take over the running of the sport.

“Surely, in this game, you have to love it first before you dream of running it and when we don’t see you at Rufaro, we don’t see you at Barbourfields, we don’t see you at Luveve, we never see you at Ascot, or where the Division One matches are played, don’t come to us to say that you are a leader.
