Women’s League moves gear up in drumming up support
ZANU-PF Harare Women’s League leadership is engaging women from all walks of life on the challenges they are facing, particularly widows and those living with disabilities.
Harare Zanu-PF Women’s League chairwoman Cde Ratidzo Mukarati said women were facing several challenges that could affect support for the ruling party if not addressed.
She said members of the Women’s League were visiting different areas in Harare to hear the concerns of women and help them in the best way the party could.
Addressing hundreds of women who attended a meeting in Tafara yesterday, Cde Mukarati said: “We are concerned with the welfare of women in Harare.
“We want to know the challenges being faced by women in general, widows and those living with disabilities.
“We are engaging each other as women and by so doing we will be uniting the party and recruiting more supporters.”
Cde Mukarati said from the visits she has had, most women were complaining of high water bills when there was no proper service from the authorities.
She said most widows and women with disabilities were failing to pay the bills because they did not have income.
“We have encountered cases of women who lost their money to land barons, others are complaining of the high charges they are supposed to pay when processing the estate of their husbands and we will take these issues to the responsible authorities so they can be addressed,” said Cde Mukarati.
“We are also uniting women through sports and in the process we can recruit more party supporters.”
Harare Province Women’s League Secretary for Administration Cde Mavis Gumbo said the meetings being held in the province were meant to unite women, mobilise support for President Mnangagwa and educate women on the importance of supporting each other.
“We are mobilising women to vote for President Mnangagwa and to support each other,” she said.
“We want all the women to register to vote because we want our party and President Mnangagwa to win resoundingly. We are having challenges in Harare and most of these affect women.
“For instance, we have had a problem of cholera and we are having awareness campaigns to educate each other on the diseases and good hygienic practices.”
Cde Gumbo urged women to go in their numbers to attend the 38th Independence celebrations at the National Sports Stadium on Wednesday.
“Let us go in our numbers to the National Sports Stadium to commemorate our Independence,” she said.
