Kadoma registers 1 400 properties

KADOMA Municipality has registered 1 400 new properties through a recently concluded property survey, raising expectations that this might augment revenue collections.

The local authority commissioned the survey in a bid to find ways to enhance service delivery in the city.

There were 13 300 registered properties before the survey.

Kadoma Municipality’s town clerk Mr Malvern Dondo said a draft report was presented to management on March 29, with 1 400 new properties included in the property list.

He said the property survey also revealed that almost every property in Kadoma had access to council services.

“Despite claims that there was no water in some areas in Kadoma, the survey revealed that water coverage is quite reasonable,” he said.

“In terms of whether the properties were being billed or not, the information would be available after the release of the final draft.”

Mr Dondo said the final report would be ready before the end of the month.

“The consultant is now working on the procedure of the final report,” he said.

“There are minor adjustments we felt needed to be made before the release of the final document.”

The survey sought to establish the number of developed and undeveloped properties, as well as services available in those areas.

It mainly assessed roads in the city, the water supply situation and the sewer system, among others.

Further, it also ascertained whether residents were getting their bills or not.

Kadoma was founded in the 1890s as a mining camp and was known as Gatooma until 1982.
