New clinic for Sanyati

- Blessings Chidakwa in KADOMA

SANYATI Rural District Council has converted a farmhouse into a modern clinic as the local authority improves villagers’ access to health.

The development will see villagers having convenient access to the new health facility to be open by July.

In an interview recently, Sanyati RDC chief executive Mr Achim Shadaya said the council was driven by the desire to bring health facilities closer to the people.

“Council is renovating an existing farmhouse at Carfex to suit the minimum requirements for a clinic,” he said.

“We identified the challenges faced by farmers who were failing to access health facilities, hence we resorted to converting the farm house.”

Mr Shadaya said work on the conversion of the farmhouse into a clinic was already underway with noticeable progress having been made.

“Electrification, painting and water reticulation systems have already been completed and we hope by end of July we would have completed the whole process,” he said.

Mr Shadaya said council was also augmenting water supplies at another local clinic.

“At Chegutu 6 Clinic, we are also rehabilitating a 50 000 cubic metre water tank,” he said.

“The clinic is already operational, but there were constant water challenges as people there were relying on a 100 metre deep borehole which has since run dry.

“The refurbished water tank will be drawing water from a nearby dam, with the electrification process having already been done.”

Chegutu 6 Clinic, which started operating three years ago, will be officially opened in June this year.
