War vets unite, throw weight behind ED
WAR Veterans here have buried the hatchet and pledged unwavering support for President Mnangagwa ahead of the 2018 harmonised elections.
In an interview, War Vets Midlands Provincial executive member Cde John Kapfumvute said the liberation war fighters, who were divided along factional lines, were now a united front and were working collectively to ensure victory for the revolutionary party in the coming elections.
“We have managed to iron out our differences and we are now working together ahead of the elections to make sure that our ZANU-PF party led by President Mnangagwa wins resoundingly,” he said.
Factionalism had reared its ugly head in the province particularly Kwekwe where parallel structures had been created with Cde George Kurasha leading a breakaway faction while Knowlet Hove led another.
But Cde Kapfumvute said all that was water under the bridge.
“The coming in of the new political dispensation saw us uniting as war veterans we have managed to find each other and both Cdes Kurasha and Hove are provincial members who are working together to ensure ZANU-PF wins the coming elections,” said Cde Kapfumvute.
He said a number of war vetrans had submitted their CVs to participate in the harmonised elections either as MPs, councillors or senators.
He said they were satisfied with their members who have shown interest in contesting in the forthcoming elections.
“In the province we have over 10 Cdes in the provincial executive who are running for MP seats.
“We also have a number who are eyeing council positions. It is a welcome development that reflects democracy in the country,” he said.
