In-law attacked with screwdriver

-

A CHITUNGWIZA man who used a screwdriver to “fix” his sister-in-law for meddling in his domestic affairs has been fined $30 by a Chitungizwa court.

Samuel Mativenga (42) appeared before Chitungwiza magistrate Mr Oliver Mudzongachiso facing physical abuse charges.

He pleaded not guilty, but was convicted after overwhelming evidence produced in court.

Mativenga will spend 15 days in prison if he fails to pay the fine.

The court heard that on April 11 this year, at around midday, Tracy Mawere — sister to Mativenga’s wife — was at the couple’s home, trying to solve their marital dispute.

However, during the discussions, Mativenga was unhappy with Mawere’s interventions, which forced him to stab her on the forehead with a screwdriver.

She filed a police report, leading to Mativenga’s arrest.

Meanwhile, another Chitungwiza man was yesterday ordered to pay a $40 fine for assaulting his ex-wife after she allegedly cheekingly asked him about his girlfriend’s whereabouts.

Innocent Sibanda (45) appeared before Mr Mudzongachiso facing physical abuse charges.

Similarly, he pleaded not guilty but was convicted due to overwhelming evidence produced against him.

He will spend 20 days in jail if he fails to pay the fine. — Herald Reporter.
