Mutinhiri, ‘a modern day Morrison Nyathi’

- Mashonaland East Correspondent

WAR Veterans in Mashonaland East have compared National Patriotic Front (NPF) interim leader Brigadier-General (Retired) Ambrose Mutinhiri’s level of betrayal to that of liberation struggle sell-out, Morrison Nyathi.

At the height of the liberation struggle, Nyathi - a Zanla fighter - led Rhodesian Selous Scouts to Nyadzonia Camp where they massacred over 1 000 guerrillas.

It is recorded as one of the worst massacres during the 14-year-long war.

In an interview with The Herald, Mashonaland East war veterans chairperson Cde Daniel Sigauke blasted Brigadier-General (Rtd) Mutinhiri for being a sell-out to the nation.

“He (Mutinhiri) has been in the trenches with us and was a commander, but surprisingly when we were at the height of removing the Mugabe regime he betrayed us,” he said.

“All along, Mutinhiri has been siding with Mr Mugabe while he was still with us in the party. He is a Morrison Nyathi incarnate, the same way Nyathi betrayed our brothers and sisters at Nyadzonia is the same way he has done to all Zimbabweans.”

Brigadier-General (Rtd)Mutinhiri served in the Zipra high command during the war.

After independence he held several positions in Government and lately as Mashonaland East Minister of State for Provincial Affairs.

However, early last month Brigadier-General (Rtd) Mutinhiri resigned from Parliament under flimsy grounds challenging the legality of the new dispensation.

A week later, the long-serving Zanu-PF member shocked Zimbabweans after he was anointed by Mr Mugabe as leader of the G40 cabal political project.

Cde Sigauke said Brigadier-General (Rtd) Mutinhiri’s party would not win a seat in Mashonaland East province in the upcoming general elections.

“The National Pathetic Front (sic) led by Mutinhiri was not our worry. People here know that he betrayed the nation. He is alone and he will get one vote from himself.

“Indeed, Mutinhiri has proved to be a pathetic front of Mr Mugabe and his criminals. They are living in the past and as war veterans we are not deterred by his party.”

Cde Sigauke said the demise of Brigadier-General (Rtd) Mutinhiri was near considering that his colleagues were a bunch of criminals and sellouts.

Reports already indicate that NPF is on the verge of collapse amid reports that Brigadier-General (Rtd) Mutinhiri was an “incompetent” leader.
