Marondera RDC gets down to business
MARONDERA Rural District Council (MRDC) has proposed a $500 000 supplementary budget to help it implement projects outlined in its 100-day plan.
The local authority is trying to spruce up infrastructure in all its 23 wards.
MRDC chairperson Mr Patrick Chidhakwa told The Herald recently that they were now waiting for the Ministry of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing to approve the supplementary budget.
“Since the coming in of the new Government into office, we have upped our operations; that is, service delivery, road and infrastructure rehabilitation,” he said.
“The new dispensation has restored confidence in our ease of doing business and hope to our people within the district.”
It is believed that the local authority’s operations over the years have been hamstrung by policy inconsistencies, including the debt write-off to ratepayers by the Government in 2013, which left a gaping hole in its finances.
Service delivery suffered as a result.
But under the new political administration led by President Mnangagwa, Mr Chidhakwa said, council had been able to achieve 80 percent of targeted objectives under the 100-day plan.
Drilling of boreholes in the 23 wards is almost complete and construction of two more clinics and a maternity home are at an advanced stage.
