Chiredzi launches #EDhasMyVote campaign

- Tawanda Mangoma in CHIREDZI

THE Zanu-PF Youth League has launched the #EDhasMyVote campaign in Chiredzi to drum up support for President Mnangagwa in the district ahead of the forthcoming harmonised elections.

Chiredzi is traditionally a Zanu-PF stronghold in Masvingo and according to preliminary statistics from the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission, more than 100 000 people have registered to vote under Biometric Voter Registration in the district.

Addressing thousands of youths at Tshovani Stadium on Tuesday, Zanu-PF Secretary for Youth Affairs Cde Pupurai Togarepi said the ruling party was impressed by the zeal amongst youths to take up leadership positions ahead of the coming elections.

“During my tenure (as Youth League chair of Zanu-PF), I want to make sure more youths participate in electoral processes, not only as voters, but as aspiring councillors and Members of Parliament,” he said.

“The statistics from ZEC are showing that more youths have registered to vote under BVR countrywide and we must take advantage of our access to social media platforms to spread the word to others about the #EDhasMyVote Campaign.”

Cde Togarepi reiterated the need for youths to exercise extreme discipline before, during and after the coming polls.

“We must be mature enough to understand the political dynamics in our country and realise that as youths we must never be used to engage in violence,” he said. “President Mnangagwa is very clear on the issue of violence.

“He wants an election that is violence-free. He wants an election in which youths will vote him back to power in a free and fair environment.”

Zanu-PF Masvingo Provincial Youth chairman Cde Brian Munyoro said the ruling party would not condone violence.

“Zanu-PF is a peace loving party, most of you whom we taught about the Chitepo Ideological School understand that violence doesn’t solve anything, but dialogue is a recipe for victory,” he said.

“We must market our party programmes and policies and get into the coming election in a winning mood.

“President Mnangagwa is having sleepless nights running around the world trying to lure investors into the country so that closed firms such as the Cold Storage Company in Masvingo re-open and create jobs that will benefit mainly the youths.

“We must be happy that President Mnangagwa is pushing the Zimbabwe is open for business mantra that will create jobs and grow our economy as we push to attain middle-income status by 2030.”

Cde Munyoro urged all party members in Chiredzi district and Masvingo at large to tirelessly work and make sure Zanu-PF retains all the 26 House of Assembly seats in the province that were won in the last polls.
