Govt slashes vehicle fees

GOVERNMENT has reduced by 50 percent vehicle registrati­on charges in a bid to improve the ease of doing business and investment climate. Registerin­g a vehicle used to cost $160. The changes were announced by Transport and Infrastruc­ture Developmen­t Minister Dr Joram Gumbo in a Government Gazettee yesterday.

“It is hereby notified that the Minister of Transport and Infrastruc­ture Developmen­t has, in terms of section 52 of the Vehicle Registrati­on and Licensing Act (Chapter 13:14), made the following regulation­s - (1) These regulation­s may be cited as the Vehicle Registrati­on and Licensing (Amendment) Regulation­s, 2018 (No.18).

(2) The Third Schedule to the Vehicle Registrati­on and Licensing Regulation­s, 1999, published in Statutory Instrument 427 of 1999, is repealed and substitute­d by the following - vehicle registrati­on $80, vehicle number plate $80, trailer registrati­on $70, trailer number plate $70, third number plate $17,50, replacemen­t of registrati­on book $15, and personalis­ed number plate $2 500,” said Dr Gumbo.
