RISING musician Precious “Popo” Mapurisa recently dropped her debut single titled “Bhora Remapepa” that has dominated local music charts.

The 22-year-old musician said she is ready to make an impact in the music industry and is already working on her first album.“The response I have received from people, so far is overwhelming and at the same time empowering. I am already working on my first album and I am confident people are going to love it,” said Mapurisa.

“Bhora Remapepa” is a song about a girl threatening to leave a boy.

“This song is about a girl who is tired of her man mistreating her so she is telling him that she is leaving. She knows her worth and she cannot continue being treated bad. It is a typical situation in relationships where men take their women for granted so I just decided to sing about it,” said Mapurisa.

The song was recorded in January and produced by Teeboy from Raven records studio in Masvingo.

She said her love for music started at a very young age but she only decided to do it professionally after finishing her high school.

“My music journey started in primary. I have always wanted to do music because it is where I feel at home and in control. I could sing on events like graduations and ceremonies and I really enjoyed having an audience. As time went by in high school, I became shy and could not sing so I pressed pause. Later I realised that music is my life and I could not live without it. After A Level I applied at the Zimbabwe College of Music and started there in 2016,” she said.

Mapurisa said she inherited the musical gift from her family who are musicians as well.

“We are a family that loves to sing and whenever we get together, we are always singing. My sisters are singers as well but I am the only one who decided to do it professionally,” she said.
