GOKWE North traditional leader, Chief Chireya, has called for peace as the country gears for the forthcoming harmonised elections.

He said peaceful elections could be used to underwrite national development and prosperity for the country.

Addressing villagers at Chinyenyetu Business Centre in Gokwe North at a handover ceremony of two acres of land by legislator Cde Justice Mayor Wadyajena to be used as a flea market, Chief Chireya (Mr Henry Chidzivo) said he expects peace during the forthcoming national elections.

“We do not want violence. Gokwe has been known for peace and we expect you to maintain that peaceful environment in the coming elections,” said Chief Chireya.

He hailed Cde Wadyajena for taking the opportunity to unveil an income-generating project for the community, especially at a time when the party was seized with elections.

“As traditional leaders, we remain apolitical. We do not delve into partisan politics. But where there is need to give credit we are duty-bound to do that.

“You do not need to unnecessarily change people who would be spearheading development as what we have witnessed with Cde Wadyajena and in particular the present Government led by President Mnangagwa,” said Chief Chireya.

The traditional leader commended President Mnangagwa whom he described as an upright liberator.

“President Mnangagwa is keen to see Zimbabwe prosper. I am proud of him,” he said.

Cde Wadyajena also indicated that there was need for people to choose candidates of their choice freely during the coming elections.

“You should vote for a candidate of your choice. But it is critical that you vote for Zanu-PF led by our leader President Mnangagwa for peace and development,” said Cde Wadyajena.

Turning to the flea market, Cde Wadyajena said his desire was to complement efforts by President Mnangagwa’s administration to empower women.

He implored the women to be united and support each through income-generating projects.
