Vainona edge Girls High

- Takudzwa Chitsiga Sports Reporter

VAINONA continued with their dominance over Girls High on the second day of the Dairibord Schools Rugby festival at Prince Edward yesterday.

The two rivals’ battle was the major highlight of yesterday’s second day of the annual sports fiesta which has more than 100 schools taking part.

Dorothy Napazi and Milanda Jonga scored tries to see of the Girls High challenge.

Shingirai Zhoyo, the Vainona High coach, said they were happy with the win as it was always going to be difficult to play against Girls High.

“We are happy that we managed to win our opening match, it is very difficult to play Girls High. The rivalry is strong and they gave us a torrid time as we tried to break them.

‘‘We will remain focused and we will stick to our game plan, especially in our next game where we will play Roosevelt.

“The side has improved a lot as we managed to beat one of the favourite teams,” said Zhoyo.

The tournament continues today with the main match pitting Hillcrest and Churchill.

Hillcrest director of sports, Crispen Mhike, said they were looking forward to a tough encounter but they were ready for the Bulldogs.

“Our first assignment will be against Churchill and as usual we want to defeat them, we have worked hard ahead of this festival.

‘‘We look forward to a tough encounter,” said Mhike.
