A BINDURA magistrate last week sentenced two men to three months in prison for politically-motivated violence.

Simon Madzudzo and Munyaradzi Madzudzo were, however, spared jail.

Provincial magistrate, Ms Vongai Palmer Guwuriro, wholly suspended the three months jail term on condition that they perform 105 hours each of community service at Madamombe Primary School.

The prosecutor, Mr Brighton Korera said on March 31, at about 10pm, at Madombwe Village under Chief Makope in Chiweshe, the pair and the complainant, Spadam Mandionerero were attending a funeral at Matsungo homestead when they had a misunderstanding.

“During the funeral proceedings, the two had a misunderstanding with the complainant whom they accused of supporting Zanu-PF councillor for Ward Four, Michael Mutopa and Member of National Assembly for Mazowe North constituency, Advocate Martin Dinha.

“Simon and Munyaradzi accused Mandionerero of being a stumbling block in their efforts to remove Mutopa and Adv Dinha from power and replace them with Simon and Cleopas Vengai Nyangoni,” he said.

Mandionerero told the pair Mutopa and Adv Dinha would win the forthcoming elections resoundingly.

The pair assaulted Mandionerero.

They were refrained from further assaulting the complainant by Zebron Masimba and other mourners.
