Beitbridge RDC to urbanise Lutumba Growth Point

BEITBRIDGE Rural District Council has embarked on a land development programme aimed at urbanising Lutumba Growth Point, which is 20km north of the border town along the Beitbridge-Masvingo Highway.

The council’s chief executive Mr Peter Moyo last week said servicing of stands would ease perennial accommodation woes in Beitbridge town.

He said so far they had worked on the roads, water and a standard dumpsite.

The area has been growing rapidly during the last decade and services most villages in Beitbridge East constituency.

“So far we have connected 31 properties to water.

“We have drilled three boreholes to service nearly 400 housing stands and businesses,” said Mr Moyo.

“The first batch of 400 stands were serviced towards the end of 2015 and have been allocated to the beneficiaries.

“Currently we are in the midst of servicing 85 additional stands which will soon be allocated to the respective beneficiaries.”

He said the water reticulation programme was continuous. In addition, most properties in the area are electrified.

According to Mr Moyo, the local authority’s housing waiting list currently stands at 3000.

He said the costs of servicing residential stands was relatively cheap since they will be using septic tanks and water reticulated from the three boreholes.
