CHITUNGWIZA Municipality has appointed Dr Tawanda Nyamangodo as the new clinical director of its city health department with effect from May 3.

The position had been vacant for six months.

Chitungwiza’s city health department director Dr Tonderai Kasu said Dr Nyamangodo’s major duty is to be the generalist clinician that covers council clinics.

A generalist clinician is a health care clinician who does not have specialist training in hospice (care for the terminally ill), and palliative medicine (specialised medicine for serious illnesses).

“We are very pleased that we now have Dr Tapiwa Nyamangodo as our clinical manager, a new post that is in our new organogram, with effect from this month, and his major duty is to be the generalist clinician that covers our city council clinics,” said Dr Kasu.

“He is a very competent and skilled medical doctor, and he has a lot of relevant experience having previously worked for Mutare City Health Department,” he said.

Dr Nyamangodo is expected to act as one of the two health deputy directors.

Chitungwiza has been battling with water-borne disease like typhoid and cholera for a long time.

According to Dr Kasu, financial constraints were negatively affecting the local authority’s service delivery.

“Lack of sufficient resources have negatively affected our service delivery partly because the actual funds made available to the health department have always been consistently less than budgetary allocations for health as per council’s budget,” said Dr Kasu.
