Car loan scheme for pastors

A NON- GOVERNMENTAL organisation has distributed 300 vehicles to pastors drawn from various churches here as it aims to ease their transport challenges.

The vehicles are being offered through a flexible loan scheme that is spearheaded by Reverend Obadiah Musindo’s Destiny of Africa Network (DAnet).

The NGO recently secured funding to roll out a car loan scheme for church leaders across the political divide, working closely with local banks and insurance firms.

In an interview after meeting some of the church leaders on Wednesday this week, DAnet Kadoma projects manager Pastor David Pick said beneficiaries would start receiving their vehicles in a fortnight’s time.

“Through the loan facility, here in Kadoma 300 pastors are set to benefit for now, but our target is to distribute at least 1 000 vehicles to the church leaders,” he said.

Twenty pastors would receive the vehicles in two weeks’ time.

Pastor Pick said another batch of vehicles would be parcelled out in less than two months. “In July, 100 more pastors will receive their vehicles. The programme has also benefited clerics in other cities and towns across the country,” he said.

Pastor Pick said the organisation was guided by Government’s thrust to alleviate poverty.

IT IS not everyday that you get a senior politician of an opposition party speaking glowingly about the new dispensation and the need for investors to take up opportunities now and not wait for the forthcoming harmonised elections.

The narrative from that corner has been one that goes against Government and national interest at large.

I was therefore pleasantly surprised a few days ago by City of Harare Mayor Councillor Bernard Manyenyeni of the opposition MDC-T when he spoke positively about the new dispensation, inviting investors from China to come to Zimbabwe immediately.

He even warned investors that they would lose out on opportunities if they delayed in expressing their interest. Ordinarily, he would have been expected to use the platform to denigrate President Mnangagwa and his Government, rubbishing all efforts to restore the economy.

But Cllr Manyenyeni went against the grain as he addressed the Fourth China-Africa Local
