Corporates pledge to back varsity

-

CORPORATES in Mutare have pledged to contribute to the welfare of students from Manicaland State University of Applied Sciences by availing attachment opportunities and employment when they complete their studies.

This came out during the institution’s inaugural stakeholder interface meeting held at its main campus in Mutare yesterday.

The workshop provided an opportunity for stakeholders from Manicaland Province to share ideas and contribute to the university’s 10-year masterplan, which seeks to develop the institution in both infrastructure and soft knowledge.

The university’s director of the school of business leadership, Dr Patience Siwadi said student welfare was important in creating quality graduates.

“Effective student affairs management systems are essential to the institution as we will all appreciate that student welfare is a critical component in enhancing excellent teaching and learning.

“Excellent facilities both on and off campus are important in the production of a quality graduate to which corporates within and around Mutare should be willing to contribute,” she added.

Dr Siwadi said the university’s master plan sought to produce quality and relevant graduates.

“Part of the university’s master plan is to generate knowledge in students that is usable and relevant to the community in which the institution exists.

“We need not employ graduates coming from institutions outside Manicaland when we have our very own state university producing graduates relevant to the industries we have here,” said Dr Siwadi.

Officials from Metallon Gold Mining, National AIDS Council, Ministry of Lands, Agriculture and Rural Resettlement, Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, CIMAS Medical Aid Society and CBZ Bank to name a few, attended the workshop. — Herald Reporter.
