Man dies after excessive drinking
A MBERENGWA man reportedly died after consuming a traditional brew commonly known as “seven days” which made him fall repeatedly, hitting his head hard against the ground.
Acting Midlands Police spokesperson Sergeant Xolani Dube confirmed the incident. “Police are investigating the death of a Mberengwa man who died after allegedly falling several times on the ground hitting his head hard as a result of taking too much traditional beer,” he said.
It is alleged that Peter Mabayamhashu, the deceased was in the company of two suspects Takudzwa Matipedza and Tavaka Maidza. It is reported that the three were invited to maize thrashing beer party.
“At the party they were drinking home-made beer while thrashing the maize and it is alleged that when they finished work the trio left for their homes in the company of another villager Pumelela Mabayamhashu.” “Along the way the four took a rest because Mabayamhashu was constantly falling along the way due to excessive drunkenness. It is alleged that Pumelela then went on his way. Later that same day, Pumelela found Mabayamhashu’s body lying motionless on the same road he left him in with the other two,” he added.
Sergeant Dube said that a report was made to the police and the body was ferried to Zvishavane District Hospital. “Police managed to arrest Matipedza and he is currently assisting in the further investigations while Maidza is on the run.”
