Top Moto-X riders assemble at Donnybrook

- Collin Matiza Sports Editor

SPILLS and thrills will be the order of the day when some of the country’s finest junior and senior male and female motocross riders congregate at the cathedral of local motorsport — Donnybrook Raceway — in Harare tomorrow for the second round of the 2018 Bogwheelers Club National Championship series.

A good field of more than 50 of the country’s top riders is expected to take to the track at Donnybrook tomorrow where they will be fighting for the top podium places in more than five different classes - PeeWee (for bikers under the age of seven), 50cc, 65cc, 85cc, 125cc, MX1, MX2 and Veterans - during this one-day motorcycling event which is sponsored by hp lubes Castrol.

And all eyes will be in the 85cc Class which is likely to produce an exciting duel for the top step on the podium between four of the country’s top junior riders - Emmanuel Bako, Daiyaan “D” Manuel, Tanya Muzinda and Ricky Whyte.

The last time out at Donnybrook, in a club event which was held on May 6, Manuel dominated the proceedings in this class in which he beat the country’s top female rider Muzinda and Whyte into second and third place.

And Manuel will be looking for a repeat performance in tomorrow’s Nationals at the same venue.

But he should expect stiff competition from fellow talented young rider Bako who will be back competing in the 85cc Class after opting to compete in the 65cc Class during the May 6 club event.

With a string of brilliant performances both at home and in South Africa where he is competing in that country’s National and Regional championships this year, the 12-year-old Bako now hopes to bear the fruits of the speed he has shown lately and should push Manuel all the way in tomorrow’s event.
