GWERU-BASED Air Force High School last week received a donation of science equipment from the Midlands State University.

The school’s science department received 50 cell holders, 32 round bottom flasks, 35 funnels, 18 micro cylinder flasks, 10 two litre volumetric flasks and other laboratory chemicals.

Speaking during the handover ceremony of the new science equipment former MSU Dean of Students in the faculty of Science and computer science Lecture Mr Amos Mukwembi urged schools and students to prioritise science subjects as they play a pivotal role in the resuscitation of the country’s economy.

“We have decided to donate science equipment because as we all know science subjects can play a vital role in unlocking the country’s full potential especially in the country’s main income generating sectors such as mining and agriculture so we have come to donate this equipment to the Air force High School as a way of investing in the students who are the leaders of tomorrow,” said Mr Mukwembi

In her speech during the handover ceremony the headmistress of the Air Force High School Mrs Austina Sithole thanked the university for the donation, which she said will go a long way in improving the learning conditions of science students who did not have enough science apparatus to use during their practical science sessions.

“We are went to the thank the Midlands State university for such an initiative and this donation will help our students as they will have more apparatus to use during their science practical sessions,” said Mrs Sithole. A KWEKWE magistrate has dismissed a case in which a Kwekwe City councillor was being accused of obstructing the course of justice and perpetrating violence during Zanu-PF primary elections.

Magistrate Mr Lavroe Philemon acquitted Ward 9 Councillor Kandu Lawe due to lack of evidence.

Clr Lawe was accused of leading a group of youths that stormed Amaveni Police Station to rescue Stanley Zambuko who had been arrested for violent behaviour at a polling station.

The councillor is alleged to have ordered Zambuko to jump over the counter at the station.

In dismissing the matter, Mr Philemon noted that the witnesses made contradictory statements leading to the state failing to sustain its case.

“I am failing to understand who exactly saw the accused ordering Zambuko to jump from behind the counter as per laid charges,” said Mr Philemon.

He also noted that there was no clear indication on who exactly within the group caused Zambuko to jump as the two witnesses gave diverging statements.
