Bako heads back to SA
HIGH-RIDING Zimbabwe’s junior motocross champion rider Emmanuel Bako will be out to consolidate his lead in the 65cc Class Standings of this year’s South African Northern Regions Championship series in Johannesburg on Saturday.
This will be the third round of the 2018 Northern Regions Championship (NRMX) series, which is the officially sanctioned and recognised Regional Championship for the Northern Regions of South Africa, and Bako is this year competing in both the 65cc and 85cc classes in this tough motorcycling competition.
He has so far won his first two races in the 65cc Class during the opening two rounds of the Northern Regions Championship series at Sand Trax in Sasolburg on February 3 and at Dirt Bronco in Krugersdorp on March 17.
And he will be out to consolidate his place at the top of the standings at Terra Topia Dirt Bike Club in Johannesburg on Saturday.
Bako is currently sitting pretty at the top of the NRMX 65cc Class Standings with 97 points, 13 clear of his nearest rival Lucas Venter of South Africa.
Another top South African junior rider Barend du Toit is in third place with same number of points (84).
In the NRMX 85cc Class Standings, Bako is lying in sixth place with 47 points.
The first three places are being occupied by South African bikers Wesley McGavin (94 points), Tyler Tarantino (87 points) and Deagan Bloomfield (75 points).
But it is in the 65cc Class where Bako has been taking no prisoners in this year’s South African Northern Regions Championship series and he will once again be “the man” to beat during Saturday’s race meeting at Terra Topia.
Bako’s father and manager, Brighton, confirmed yesterday his son will be back on the road this week.
“This is a regional event and most of South Africa’s top junior riders will be in attendance; and Emmanuel is determined to put on another good show at this event as he wants to maintain his lead in the 65cc Class Standings,” Brighton said.
Emmanuel is heading back to South Africa this weekend after having stamped his authority in the 65cc Class during last Sunday’s round two of the 2018 Bogwheelers Club National Championship series at Donnybrook Raceway in Harare.
The Bogwheelers Club run the motorcycling sport of motocross in this country under the Zimbabwe Motorsaport Federation.
Coming up against some of the country’s top junior motocross riders, Emmanuel was just in a class of his own in the 65cc Class last Sunday where he relegated promising young riders Jordan Dewdney and Dillan Faasen into second and third place.
Meanwhile, Zimbabwe’s senior champion rider Jayden Ashwell is also competing in this year’s South African Northern Regions series where he is lying in fourth place in the MX1 Class Standings with 75 points after the first two rounds of this regional championship.
