Makonde to rehabilitate over 300km of roads
MAKONDE Rural District Council has set a target of rehabilitating more than 300km of roads in the area before the end of 2018, an official has said.
In an interview, Makonde RDC overall engineer Mr Meynard Nyikadzino said council had already started working on the roads in Mhangura, with close to 150km of road rehabilitated.
“We have set a target of rehabilitating more than 300km of our roads that we hope to work on this year and of this, more than 100km will be for Mhangura Constituency,” he said.
He said work has already been completed in Ward 6 of the district.
Mr Nyikadzino said since the local authority has one grader, it is forced to interchange it between Mhangura and Makonde constituencies.
“After having done some work in Mhangura Constituency, the grader has since been transferred to Makonde Constituency to cover some work there,” he said.
Another grader sourced from the Zimbabwe National Roads Administration is currently being used in the neighbouring Hurungwe District.
The Makonde RDC last year had set a target to rehabilitate 400km of the roads in the district.
The road rehabilitation projects are being done partly from Government’s Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme, with the Makonde RDC having been allocated $508 655 for this year.
Government disbursed more than $9 million for the programme in Mashonaland West Province.
