Chipinge man kills granny (79)
IN an incident that left Chipinge community shell-shocked, a 28-year-old man from Chisumbanje killed his 79-year-old grandmother after she evicted him from her home.
Chipinge district police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Blessing Kadzuraumera confirmed the incident which occurred on June 20, in Vheneka village under Chief Garahwa area.
“Yes, I can confirm the death of Futsirai Tshipango who was murdered by her nephew Roger Majoka who was resisting eviction at her home,” said Insp Kadzuraumera. “The two were staying together and had long standing differences.
“Investigations are still underway and police from Chisumbanje have managed to apprehend Majoka who he is currently helping them with investigations.
“The body of Tshipango was ferried to Chipinge district hospital for post-mortem. The accused is expected to appear in court on Friday (tomorrow) facing murder chargers.”
According to witnesses, the grisly murder occurred after Majoka and his grandmother had an altercation were the latter demanded that Majoka leave her home accusing him of stealing her money and goats.
A neighbour, Ms Cherrly Dzobo said: “She accused him of stealing money and goats, which he sold. After that quarrel in the morning, Majoka left home and went to the nearby shops to drink beer with his friends.
“When he returned, he started insulting his grandmother. He took a blunt hoe and started hitting her all over the body.
“Neighbours tried to rescue her, but she had already been hurt.
“She bled profusely. Majoka was apprehended by members of the community and was handed over to police in Chisumbanje.”
Ms Dzobo said one of the neighbours ferried Tshipango to the nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
