Waddilove ready for provincial Copa finals

- Tadious Manyepo Sports Reporter

WADDILOVE coach Ben Zhamwarira is confident his team will pull through in the Copa Coca-Cola Mashonaland East provincial finals set for St Francis of Asisi today.

The Marondera-based institution want to represent their province in the national finals in Zvishavane next month.

The Methodist Church in Zimbabwe-run school have never made it to the finals of the 30-year-old national finals.

Zhamwarira, who has been in charge of the team for over 20 years, believes his charges have what it takes to conquer the province in their maiden appearance in the finals.

The team is being powered by some Harare City juniors who are part of a partnership which was launched at a colourful ceremony last week.

Led by captain Blessed Charemba, the team has been playing an attractive brand of football and have won all the games they have played in the province, including a recent 4-1 friendly win over highly-rated Gumbonzvanda of Wedza.

“I am happy to have managed to steer my team to qualify for the provincial finals. We have always been trying but the closest we have come was reaching the district finals.

“But, this time around, we did well and managed to weave our way past traditional district powerhouses and here we are.

“My team is very strong in all departments, thanks to the partnership between the club and the school.

“I have a number of good players whom I believe have the character to steer the team to dream land.

“We are debutants at the provincial finals but we are very confident we will win and grab the ticket to the national finals.

“We know that it won’t be easy but we will try our best and with my squad raring to go, I am sure we will have a shout,” he said.
