Drug dealers nabbed

POLICE in Chinhoyi have arrested 59 people for drug abuses, including a man who was found in possession of 1 255 kilogramme­s of mbanje and 10 bottles of the illicit Broncleer alcohol.

The other 58 people were arrested for illicit drug abuse.

In an interview, Mashonalan­d West provincial police spokespers­on Inspector Clemence Mabweazara said Charles Jackson Mafuriranw­a (25) of House No. 8549 Ruvimbo Phase 1 in Chinhoyi was arrested for unlawful dealing in dangerous drugs as defined in Section 156 (1) (a) of the Criminal Law Codificati­on Act Chapter 9:23.

Mafuriranw­a is also being accused of contraveni­ng Section 113 (1) (a) as read with Section 103 of the Liquor Act Chapter 14: 12 for selling liquor without a licence.

He is employed by one Shepherd Chigayo (29) who is still at large.

“On June 24, police officers received a tip off that Mafuriranw­a was selling dagga and Broncleer alcohol at the said address and the following day detectives proceeded to the scene where they arrested about 58 people who were smoking dagger, drinking beer and Broncleer cough syrup,” he said.

Insp Mabweazara said police also recovered powdered dagga believed to be used in the manufactur­ing of ganja cakes.

“We are encouragin­g people to notify the police whenever there are shebeens operating, they are illegal and criminals usually drink in such hideouts,” he said.
