Midlands Show eyes 30 000 visitors
MIDLANDS Show Society is targeting to attract around 30 000 people during its 2018 edition to be held from August 16 to 19 in Gweru.
Speaking at a press conference last week, Midlands Show Society executive chairperson Mr Augustine Mupakurirwa said preparations were at an advanced stage.
It will run under the theme “Steering the economy to vibrancy”.
Minister of Lands, Agriculture and Rural Resettlement Perrance Shiri will be the guest of honour.
“Preparations for the Midlands show are on course. We have shifted the dates from the traditional July 26 to 29 to August 16 to 19 because of the harmonised 2018 elections and this year they expecting around 30 000 people to attend, which will an improvement from last year’s figure of 20 000.”
Mr Mupakurirwa said this year’s show was going to be bigger and better because they have managed to retain last year’s exhibitors and also recorded 18 new exhibitors.
“The show society has also organised a business conference that will be held at Fairmile Hotel where companies are expected to interact and share ideas.
”We have managed retain last year`s exhibitors and we also managed to record 18 new exhibitors which include ZanuPF, Profeeds and many others and we have planned a business conference at Fairmile Hotel which will enable companies to network and interact,” said Mr Mupakurirwa.
Mr Mupakurirwa said farmers should not worry about diseases like foot and mouth.
`’We have arranged with the Veterinary Services Department to ensure that the cattle that will be exhibited will be cleared from the foot and mouth disease,” he said.
