Tongogara’s widow hails peace

WIDOW of former Zimbabwe National Liberation Army Commander General Josiah Magama Tongogara, Cde Angeline Tongogara, has hailed the peace prevailing in the country, saying it shows that the new dispensation is walking its talk.

Speaking at a Zanu-PF Women’s League rally to drum up support for the party in Chiweshe last week, Cde Tongogara said the prevailing peaceful environment was one of a kind since the proliferation of opposition parties.

“Just after the coming in of the new President, we can all see that there are now numerous political parties and each one is getting access to the public media unlike in the past,” she said.

“Even when these opposition parties want to conduct demonstrations, our President just says go ahead and only calls for peace and unity. Nevertheless, Zimbabwe got its Independence through sacrifices by both living and fallen heroes and we should ensure that the legacy continues.”

Cde Tongogara urged people to vote in their numbers to ensure a resounding victory for Zanu-PF and President Mnangagwa on July 30.

Zanu-PF Women’s League has embarked on a mass mobilisation exercise ahead of the forthcoming harmonised elections.

Addressing the same gathering, Cde Angeline Chipato from Zanu-PF Masvingo Province, said President Mnangagwa had gone through hard times, but never deserted the party.

“We have been delegated by Cde Mable Chinomona (Women’s League secretary) to address you,” she said.

“We have realised that the party has a big following in this province and we should continue rallying behind Zanu-PF.

“In President Mnangagwa we are saying the redeemer has come. We should all rally behind him and the party.”
