Gokwe-Kana throws weight behind ED

- Midlands Correspondent

THOUSANDS of Gokwe-Kana villagers have thrown their weight behind President Mnangagwa, saying his visionary leadership will restore Zimbabwe’s breadbasket status.

Speaking during a constituency meeting held at Ndadulo Village, Chief Mkoka said President Mnangagwa was capable of turning around the economy as he has brought development to the constituency since he got into office last year.

“As a constituency, we are very grateful to President Mnangagwa for bringing development to our area,” he said.

“Our area was one of the most marginalised in the country, but after the ushering in of the new dispensation, we have seen development projects kicking off.

“Electricity has been introduced to our area, seven clinics in the constituency have been built, several bridges have been repaired, while a number of boreholes were drilled and villagers no longer walk for long distances in search of water.”

Chief Mkoka expressed his gratitude for the Presidential Inputs Support Scheme.

“We are very happy because we were given seed and fertiliser by the Government, and the distribution of the inputs is done fairly regardless of political affiliation,” he said.

“This was never heard of during the tenure of the old Government.”

Chief Mkoka implored Government to ensure peace prevails ahead of the harmonised elections, as violent encounters that were synonymous with the past elections seem to have died with the old order.

“Since long back, elections were characterised by violence, especially in rural areas, but what we have seen this year is different,” he said.

“In this area, I haven’t heard of any politically motivated violence. People have learnt to embrace each other regardless of political parties they belong to.”

President Mnangagwa has been preaching the gospel of peace to all political parties before, during and after elections.
