Zanu-PF youths intensify voter mobilisation

THE ruling ZANU-PF Youth League in Mashonaland West has stepped up efforts to mobilise voters for the party ahead of the Monday harmonised elections.

The programme, which started on Tuesday this week in Chinhoyi, involved a massive voter mobilisation mop-up exercise targeting youths.

It is expected to encourage the electorate to vote for the revolutionary party and President Emmerson Mnangagwa in the plebiscite.

Some of the meetings were held at Shackleton Mine, Chinhoyi, Chikonohono and Cooksey halls targeting all the constituency’s 15 wards.

Addressing youths at Chikonohono Hall, ZANU-PF Mashonaland West Youth League provincial political commissar Cde Tapiwa Chitate urged the youths to campaign for the ruling party and its Presidential candidate to ensure a resounding victory on Monday.

He said the party was targeting 500 registered youths per ward to lead the mobilisation programme.

“We now have few days to go before elections on Monday, so I urge you to concentrate on only the registered voters,” said Cde Chitate.

“I hope we are all aware that youths constitute the highest number of the electorate.

“This means if we all vote we will have an automatic win.”

Cde Chitate took the opportunity to remind the youths not to be misled by independent aspiring candidates who had defected from ZANU-PF.

“In your voter education, make sure you make it clear to people that we do not have any member of our party contesting as an independent,” he said. “Some of these candidates are still confusing our people during their campaigns.”

Cde Chitate also castigated MDC Alliance leader Mr Nelson Chamisa, saying his threats and false claims will not make him win the election as he is just displaying his political immaturity.

Cde Chitate urged all youths to participate in the massive campaign roadshow set for Chinhoyi tomorrow.
