New Gokwe school nears completion

- Midlands Correspondent

GOKWE Town Council is close to completing the construction of a new school in Ward 2 in Nyaradza area of Gokwe, which is likely to commence classes when schools reopen next term.

Gokwe Town Secretary Ms Mellania Mandeya said two classroom blocks were almost complete and will be ready for classes when schools reopen.

“We are almost ready, in fact the two blocks with two classes each, are already complete and we are expecting them to be ready for use when schools open,” she said.

Ms Mandeya said council was now working on ablution facilities and water connections.

“We are now putting final touches to the ablution facilities and water connections,” she said.

“I expect these to be complete by the time schools open.”

Ms Mandeya said the ministry of education and health had already approved the commencement of classes.

The school, said Ms Mandeya, is part of the council’s quick win projects.

“In line with the new dispensation’s quick win projects, we managed to complete the school,” she said.

“We also finished construction of the town house and we are now focusing on the clinic project, which we expect to complete soon.

“It is also part of our infrastructural development project that the council has embarked on. It is important to note that this is not an income generating project as council will not get a cent from the school. The school was constructed for the purposes of improving service delivery to the people of Gokwe.”

Ms Mandeya said the school will serve the Njelele and Nyaradza community whose children have been travelling long distances to get to school.

“The school is expected to lessen the burden on Gokwe Primary School, which is the only school within the area,” said Ms Mandeya.

Gokwe Primary School has 2 700 pupils.
