Byo Chiefs: Social media darlings

- Sports Reporter

LITTLE Bulawayo Chiefs will certainly not win the Castle Lager Premiership race this year, but every passing day, they are winning a number of fans into their corner with their informative official Twitter page.

The Twitter page keeps fans and the media informed of what is happening at the club and now and again, those who are running the account spice it all with a joke or two related to the game.

They have also added some graphics which are being praised by many football fans, including those beyond the borders.

Yesterday, Prince Dube, a Kaizer Chiefs fan, said he had also embraced Bulawayo Chiefs as one of his favourite teams.

“From today, I’m a Kaizer Chiefs and Byo Chiefs fan . . . love the way you reach your fans,” Dube said on Twitter.

The Herald’s Senior Sports Editor, Robson Sharuko, also plunged into the debate.

“You make my days @BulawayoChiefs, your social media guys are well on point, Twitter is the in-thing now and you can teach a number of these giants a lesson or two.

“Well done and (please) don’t go down, at least for me.”

Star Fm sports presenter, Howard Musonza, saluted the club.

“You are on some LEVEL @BulawayoChiefs, this social media presence is top notch . . . SALUTE!”

DiskiAfrika said they had never seen a better poster than the one which Bulawayo Chiefs had produced for their upcoming match against Harare City.

“Have you seen a better poster from a club an upcoming game? @BulawayoChiefs doing this social media at higher level,” said DiskiAfrika.

S’lindile, a Twitter user urged companies to reward such innovative clubs like Bulawayo Chiefs.

“I like that they’re drawing attention to their brand in a subtle, clean and engaging manner. Theirs is a sustained campaign, albeit a subliminal one with a healthy dose of humour.

“Can someone snap them up already.”

A CAPS United fan, @NobleStylz, even went to the extent of describing them as the best club in the country.

“The best CLUB in Zimbabwe, this is a coming from a CAPS United supporter.

“May they get the sponsorship, they deserve this, like the local Tottenham. Not too big YET, but it nails big guns and at minimum cost,” said @NobleStylz.

Tawanda Mashava said the club had employed the right people.

“Someone is doing their work right @BulawayoChiefs there, wish all the other clubs could have just a quarter of that desire when it comes to digital channels.”

The club said they were humbled by the feedback they were getting.

“Thank you all for the love and appreciation. It means a lot to us,” the club said.

“We know all those you are telling about the good job we are doing are listening and that one day it will give in.”

Meanwhile, Chicken Inn coach Joey Antipas has been named the PSL Coach of the Month for July.

His player Obrey Chirinda won the Player of the Month award.
