Harare City strike deal

HARARE CITY have secured a sponsorship deal with construction company, Sonnes Projects.

The company will be financing the team’s player of the month award as the club seek to provide motivation to their players.

Harare City marketing manager, Osborn Maranda, who brokered the deal, said the sponsorship package will go a long way in ensuring that the players perform well.

Maranda, who is also credited for facilitating the partnership between the team and Waddilove High School in May this year, said they were working to create a conducive environment for the players.

Defensive pillar Raymond Uchena became the first player to bag the gong after scooping the July award.

“We always want to build good relations with the corporate world,” said Maranda.

“We are happy to announce a sponsorship deal we have entered with Sonnes Projects whereupon the latter will bankroll our monthly player awards.

“The initial deal will be between July and December with a review clause in the contract.”

Harare City chairman Alois Masepe added that football needed to partner with business if the local game is to go far.

“For football to move forward, I think teams should attract sponsorship,” he said.

“This is the way to go and I would like to say thumbs up to Harare City Football Club marketing team for bringing on board Sonnes Projects.

“It is my fervent hope that the relationship between the club and the organisation will last for a long time.”

After seeing his troops go for a four-match winless streak, Harare City coach Mark Harrison is hopeful they will get it right against Bulawayo Chiefs at Luveve on Sunday.

The Sunshine City Boys have drawn four games on the bounce since the start of the second half of the season.

“Of course our match against Mutare City was a case of two points dropped, rather than one gained, as we dominated the match in every aspect,” said Harrison.

“But, I believe, with the right attitude, which we have always shown, coupled with goals, we can start winning matches.

“The most frustrating thing is that we are just failing to bury some easy chances which we are creating.

“Maybe it’s anxiety or tension in front of goal on the part of my players, I don’t know. We have to play without pressure.

“The match against Bulawayo Chiefs will be tough, but we will be looking for a win.”

The capital club won the reverse fixture 2-0 at Rufaro in April.
