Midlands backs President to succeed Sanctions will not deter us: Shiri

PEOPLE in the Midlands Province say they will continue to subscribe and affirm to the leadership of President Mnangagwa through upholding the Constituti­on and revolution­ary legacy.

The Minister of State for Midlands Provincial Affairs Owen Ncube said the Second Republic under President Mnangagwa, who was inaugurate­d over the weekend, was poised for greatness.

Sunday’s inaugurati­on marked the beginning of President Mnangagwa’s full five-year term as the Head of State and Government and Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces.

“On behalf of the Midlands Province and my own behalf let me convey my hearty congratula­tions to His Excellency, the President for winning resounding­ly the 2018 Presidenti­al, Parliament­ary polls and local authority elections,” he said.

“Indeed, it was a sweet victory that demonstrat­es his statesmans­hip and pragmatism towards attaining a middle income economy by 2030.”

Zanu-PF Midlands provincial chairperso­n Engineer Daniel Mackenzie Ncube congratula­ted President Mnangagwa, saying Zimbabwe was destined for better fortunes.

He said President Mnangagwa proved to be a man of action and a servant of the people.

“We have a shortage of farmers. We are looking for farmers who are willing to grow cotton so that we meet the demand.”

Minister Shiri said there was need for reorientat­ion of farmers to be more innovative and business minded.

He said farmers should start exploring European markets and take advantage of the country’s open for business mantra.

“There are a lot of opportunit­ies in farming that we need to take up as a country we will be able to generate foreign currency from exports,” he said.

“Even our beef is on demand in Europe. It is up to us to explore these opportunit­ies. South Africa generates a lot of money for the exportatio­n of fruits, why can’t we do the same.”
