14 students get China scholarships

- Masvingo Correspondent

AT least 14 academically gifted students from Masvingo have received scholarships to study at various universities in China, courtesy of a private organisation, Ruddson International Consultancy.

The students will join 16 others from other provinces who were also offered scholarships in China.

Ruddson offered 30 scholarships, with the majority of beneficiaries coming from Masvingo.

Speaking at a send-off ceremony for the students recently, Masvingo Assistant District Administrator Mrs Joyce Chikugu challenged them to be innovative and create employment back home upon completion of their studies in the Asian nation.

Mrs Chikugu said the students had a lot to learn from China and were supposed to start their own firms when they return home.

“We, therefore, urge our fellow youths to go there, get experience in innovation and then bring it home, open companies and then employ other people,” she said.

“Thus, we want our youths to go to China and acquire some knowledge on what really makes that nation tick to become the fastest-growing economy in the world today.

“Our Government is committed to supporting young innovators so that they start their own projects.”

Ruddson director Mrs Sarah Runovuya urged the scholarship beneficiaries to return home and contribute to the development of their motherland upon completion of their studies.

“That major goal of Ruddson International Consultancy is to create a new breed of Zimbabweans committed to developing their own motherland,” she said.

“We no longer want to develop other people’s lands,” said Mrs Runovuya.

Ruddson was founded and is run by Mr Tapiwa Runovuya, who once studied in China.
